Technology
Technology is a powerful tool for children who are deaf and hard of hearing. Advancements in technology are exploding and continue to provide access to children, leveling the playing field for our kids. While some families may pursue amplication or hearing technology, other families may not. Regardless, a child who is deaf or hard of hearing will benefit from technology. For amplication, a visit is to a trained audiologist who has experience and training working with infants or children is recommended. An audiologist can help a parent navigate options to see which is the most appropriate fit for the child. A speech language pathologist can assist a child with auditory training, articulation or the pragmatics of language. Other trained professionals can assist a family and child in exploring the wide array of assistive technologies, such as visual alarm systems, captioned telephones, among many others.
